Pavement Poetry is both a work of public art and a book in two parts.
This unique book describes in part 1- through a series of letters - the process through which the public art project of the same name developed from a single idea into a permanent art trail in London’s Notting Hill Gate, by a young and unschooled artist. The second part of the book is unparalleled in its photographic reproduction of many of London’s distinctive yet rapidly disappearing coalhole covers.
A specialist book equally at home on a coffee-table, it is highly recommended to anyone interested or working in public art, London history, literature, urban design and architecture. Also a perfect gift for bibliophiles, collectors and those who prize the unusual and particular in the everyday.
Authors involved in the project: Margaret Drabble, Sebastian Faulks, John Heath-Stubbs, Michael Holroyd, PD James, Hugh Thomas, Colin Thubron.
